We are a Gospel-centered church where the Good News of Jesus Christ is not only proclaimed in the pulpit but also demonstrated in the day-to-day. At Heritage, each gathering is an opportunity to grow closer in our relationship with both God and others, as we aim to apply the life-changing truths of Scripture to the circumstances of 21st-century society. We cling tightly to the inerrant, infallible Word of God and stand on the authority and the power of God’s timeless truths; for, as the apostle Paul writes, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16). It is our conviction that each service point every man, woman, boy, and girl in attendance toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, for we believe that He alone is Source of lasting hope in an ever-changing world.

Situated in the county seat, we are located just off exit 52 of Interstate 77 in Bland County, Virginia. Whether you are visiting our area for a short period of time, simply traveling through, or living here and looking for a place to worship—our church family, here at Heritage Baptist, extends you a personal invitation to come join us, as we proclaim the goodness of our Savior all for the glory of God.

Our Pastor //

Kevin Johnston

Kevin Johnston was born on February 25, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Christian school throughout his childhood and was very active within the youth ministries at his church growing up. Despite being raised in a Christian environment and hearing the Gospel preached countless times, it wasn’t until the age of twenty-one when he finally relented to the convicting power of the Holy Spirit and recognized his need for Salvation. It was then that he turned in repentance and placed his faith and trust in Christ as both Lord and Savior—God had redeemed him, a sinner saved by the glorious, pursuing grace of God.

In December of 2015, the Lord led Kevin and his family to Emmorton Baptist Church in Bel Air, Maryland, where—under the leadership of Pastor Jason McNeese—Kevin enjoyed various ministry opportunities. He served as Emmorton Baptist Academy’s High School Bible teacher from 2016-2020. In the winter of 2016, the Lord began to burden Kevin’s heart toward a call to ministry, and after nearly a year of seeking the Lord’s will through fervent prayer and pastoral counsel, he surrendered to the call to preach God’s Word on February 12, 2017.

Just a few years later, the Lord provided Kevin with an opportunity to preach at Heritage Baptist Church in Bland, Virginia, and it wasn’t long before the Lord knit his heart to the hearts of the Heritage family. On July 26th, 2020, Kevin was voted in as head-pastor of Heritage Baptist Church, where he, his wife Pam, and his three children (Delaney, Ian, and Luke) now serve each week.

Kevin is passionate about the infallible, immutable, and inerrant Word of God and is grateful to his Savior for the opportunity to teach its truths to the people God has placed under his care.
